April Dev Blog Update

Hey Everyone Andy here, things are kicking into high gear at Tappy Games! Ive been focusing on level development.

I Started by adding a road network, I then made a texture for the field and farmland. I Did some misc optimizations on the roads poly counts.

I felt like the scale of everything was a little off, so I scaled up the roads and all the other assets.

As you can see the trucks at normal scale are very small and that's no fun! This forced me to remake all our prefabs at the new scale. Tedious but totally worth the effort.

I was kind of all over the place for the past few days, so I added hedgerow to the ground texture. I then jumped over to effect creation and started messing with some explosions.

Explosion TestVideo

I started my explosion off with 13 cubes, hit them with a sphere to make the pop up, messed around until I found something I liked. Then make some cubes for smoke and animated them rolling and fading upward. More shapes for fire effects. Then BOOM!  An explosion. More to come on the effects front soon.

Hey there everyone, I’m John, BEST 3D Artist on Pixel Planes. This has been a busy week for the art team as we model texture and implement all the new art assets we created. Focusing on making several “sets” that share the same texture like the Airfield, Base, Town and Farmland.

Started the week with the City Set. I created a modular texture that allowed me to quickly texture all the buildings Andy had modeled. After that Andy created a Debris kit he used to make all the destroyed versions. These should be a lot of fun to blow up.

Farm set was pretty easy, it was mostly a retexture of the Town assets with a couple unique pieces to round out the Farmland set. We added a couple of friends to help fill the fields.

The big part of this week was creating destroyed versions of everything. Here we have the “Base” set which includes a modular bunker set along with anti-aircaft emplacements. Several tents that can be recolored for the various factions include a medical tent and a motor-pool.

The airfield was fun to revisit for the destruction pass. Making the mangled hanger was a blast.

Lastly I wrapped up this week with two bridges. On the left we have a generic bridge that is found in the areas around where the campaign takes place. On the right we have the iconic Pegasus Bridge. While Pegasus bridge wasn’t destroyed during WW2 there’s nothing stopping you from doing it here.
